If you visit Rome in the summer or early fall, make sure to walk to the Tiber Island when it gets dark. Isola Tiberina is the only island on the Roman Tiber and the first hospital was built here in 289 BC.
The river banks are full of cafés and people. There is also Isola del Cinema, an open air summer film festival.
The ancient bridge of Pons Fabricius connects the banks in front of the Roman Ghetto with the Tiber Island. It is the oldest fully preserved bridge in Rome, built by Lucius Fabricius, a Roman street curator in 62 BC.
